Tommy Hilfiger launched Promise collection for charity

Modeontwerper Tommy Hilfiger heeft een nieuwe capsule collectie gelanceerd die luistert naar de naam: “The Promise Collection”. De opbrengt gaat naar de extreem arme Afrikaanse gemeenschappen.

De collectie heeft Amerikaanse designklassiekers die Hilfiger in een nieuw jasje heeft gestoken door gebruik te maken van trendy Afrikaanse prints, kleuren en patronen. Hij heeft maar liefst 17 kledingstukken voor dames ontworpen en 13 stuks voor mannen. Tot slot is de collectie verrijkt met fijne accessoires zoals brillen, sieraden, beach wear en sjaals. 

Hilfiger werd geïnspireerd door zijn bezoek aan Oeganda in 2010. Hij vertelt: “Ik werd niet alleen geïnspireerd door de kleuren van het landschap, maar ook door het rood, groen en geel van de lokale klederdracht”. Actrice Katie Holmes is ambassadeur van de collectie en heeft inmiddels ook al een bezoek gebracht aan Oeganda.

De opbrengt gaat naar het Millennium Villages Project in Ruhiira in Oeganda wat een project is van Millennium Promise. Zij vechten al jaren tegen de armoede in Afrika en streven naar een halvering hiervan in 2015. De ontwerper doneerde al eens eerder een grote som geld van 1,5 miljoen euro aan het project om een steentje bij te dragen.

Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger has launched a new capsule collection that listens to the name: “The Promise Collection”. The profit goes to the extreme poor African community’s.

The collection has American design classics that Hilfiger gave a make-over by using trendy African prints, colours and patterns. He designed at least 17 clothing pieces for women and 13 pieces for men. Last but not least, he enriched the collection with fine accessories like glasses, jewellery, beach wear and shawls.

Hilfiger was inspired by his visit to Oeganda in 2010. He says: “I was not only inspired by the colours of the landscape, but also by the red, green and yellow of the local costumes”. Actress Katie Holmes is ambassador of the collection and she also visited Oeganda.

The profit goes to the Millennium Villages Project in Ruhiira in Oeganda which belongs to the project of Millennium Promise. They already fight for years against poverty in Africa and their goal is to cute this in halve by 2015. The designed already donated a big sum of money (1,5 million euros) to the project to contribute.
